Jennifer Hitchcock, m.ed
Jen has been studying political science since the eighth grade, when her father started her reading John Milton's Areopagitica. As Jen's dad persued his B.A. in political science from Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio, Jen took to reading his textbooks in her spare time. Jen graduated from Wheeling Jesuit University with her own B.A. in political science and promptly moved to the Washington, D.C. area to fulfill her dream of becoming a government bureaucrat. A short-lived stint as a contractor for the Environmental Protection Agency and a part-time coach for an area USA swim club caused a change in the plans, as working with young kids was more satisfying a profession. An M.Ed later from George Mason University, Jen has been teaching for twelve years, eight of which have been at Westfield High School as a proud US Government/Honors Government teacher. You can follow Jen's exploits as a teacher, swap ideas, and share resources at lovgov.weebly.com, on Facebook at facebook.com/ulovgov, or on Twitter @lovgov. She lives in Fairfax County with her husband, three young children, dog, cat, and ridiculous amount of commitments to the trappings of her young children's extra-curricular lives.

Katherine Lorio, MA History
Katherine has always been a teacher. Her first students were her three younger siblings, made to sit in her “classroom" and check out her "chalkboard" fashioned out of wood paneled closet doors. She joined the Navy, and what was supposed to be four years to earn education benefits grew to a full career of more than twenty years of active duty and reserve service. Through a myriad of travels around the United States, Asia, the Middle East and Eastern Europe, Katherine fell in love with history, government and policy-making... more then just as an accidental tourist. In her hobbies of cake decorating and yoga, Katherine found herself teaching others what she naturally loves. So, the move to teaching was a natural fit; and in 2005 she became a public school teacher in 2005. Today, she is a World History II and US government teacher in Fairfax County Public Schools. Katherine has her Masters degree in history from George Mason University and was recently selected as a 2014 National History Day Normandy scholar. Kat shares her expertise in teaching and curriculum development at Virginia Government Matters.
